The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was established in 2008 under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with the mandate for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import.

Food license or FSSAI license is granted to all manufacturers, traders, restaurants carrying out any food business which may involve manufacturing or processing. On applying for FSSAI registration, an unique 14-digit license number is issued which has to be quoted on all food packages.

Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulation 2011 governs food business certification in India. FSSAI registration or license is required for all food business administrators in India engaged in producing, depository, conveyance, and distributing food products.

The authority sends its competent officers to conduct an inquiry of the establishment. FSSAI officer will conduct a detailed inquiry and inspection of the Place of Food Business and formulate its report. FSSAI/Food license is required to be issued within 60 days by the appropriate authority.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) give permission to TANUSRI LEGAL to do FSSAI Certification work in 13 states with 1,00,00,000 FSSAI Certification target within 31st March 2024.in the following states: WEST BENGAL, ODISHA, ASSAM, BIHAR, JHARKHAND, U.P, M.P, CHATTISGARH, TRIPURA, TELENGANA, MAHARASTRA, KARNATAKA, KERALA.
